What Does It Cost to Study in Germany



The question “And what does this cost?” is one of the first questions one is asking or is being asked by parents when their children want to study abroad. Not only a whole degree abroad but also a single term can include costs that wouldn’t be there in the home country.
What Does It Cost to Study in GermanyThe first point of the costing as imaginable would be tuition fees. In Germany however, there are no tuition fees charged for undergraduate students in all the public universities within the country as of October 2014. Most German universities are financed by the state and government so just a small amount of their money used to come from tuition fees, until now. In the last couple of years students were required to pay tuition fees in some German provinces and the fees would vary depending on the location.
From October and on, every federation is required to abolish tuition fees and offer free higher education to native and international students alike. The federal states of Bayern, Hamburg, Niedersachsen and Nordrhein-Westfalen that were charging tuition fees up to this event are now free of charge just as any other University in the country. These previously obligatory fees account for about 500 Euros per semester, now saved, which will allegedly help German students with the living costs in the future. However, postgraduate degrees don’t fall under the same decision therefore tuitions will continue to be charged for Masters and PhD degrees as in the past.
Those who want to study at a private university have to calculate with much higher tuition fees. The private universities are financed only from tuition fees and therefore these are much higher. It is possible, that students have to pay up to 20.000 Euros per year.
Since the abolishment of tuition fees in all of Germany in October 2014, there is only a symbolic fee called the semester contribution left to be paid. It is mandatory for every student and covers administration costs and the finance of cafeterias, sports areas and residential homes. Furthermore, it includes the money for a semester bus ticket. At most universities it is possible to use the students-card as a ticket for bus and train in the area. This fee can differ from university to university and costs about 150 to 250 Euros.
The second big part besides the administrative fees are the living-costs. Germany is no more expensive than other neighboring countries but one needs quite a lot of additional money when not living at the parent’s house. Living-costs in Germany differ a lot depending on the area. It is a big difference living in a big industrial or university-city or in a small town which is not that overloaded with people. Especially in the areas with high housing shortage the students form apartment-sharing communities and share the basic costs.

The apartment-sharing is a cheap alternative to the own apartment. Universities also provide residential homes for their students in which one can live cheaply. In most cases the kitchen is shared with other students and one has a small single room. Applying early for a place at the residential home raises the chance to get one of the strongly demanded places. Residential homes cost between 200 and 400 Euros, a room in an apartment-sharing community between 300 and 500 Euros. A single apartment can cost from 400 Euros upwards.
There are some more things that are needed to live besides a room. Starting with food and clothing, continuing with books for university and free-time activities these costs form another part in the costing. Depending on the subject one has to buy a lot of books or copy the lecture material, these costs can be about 50 Euros per semester. The money needed for food depends on every person. Is it enough to have the food from the cafeteria or do you want to cook wholefood products at your home? Additionally to the food there are free-time activities. It doesn’t matter if one prefers sport and has to pay for club memberships or if one likes to go out with friends and needs money for this. In total, it is a good way to look at the own lifestyle and calculate with about 200 Euros more.

Coming from a different country means that one wants to go home sometimes to see the family at Christmas or on holidays. For these travels there are more costs to be calculated, which can be quite expensive depending on the distance to the home country.
Everyone should calculate for his or her own needs and make a list what he or she needs to live. Just if the finance is secure it is possible to study in Germany.

Which requirements have to be fulfilled, which specialities are there for international students and which documents need to be completed. In this text there can be given a general abstract about the application process but single universities or subjects can differ from that.
Initially, there has to be differentiated between study programs with admission requirements and study programs without. The programs without admission requirements can be studied without special average grades or other assumptions. It is still necessary to apply and to enlist for formal reasons. The other programs have a limit after which one isn’t accepted anymore. In most cases the limit are grades. With a certain average grade (numerous clausus: NC) one is accepted or not. The NC can differ each year, depending on how many students apply for the program. It is also possible in some cases to upgrade the own average if it isn’t high enough to be accepted. Internships, finished educations, social work or military duty can be charged. Depending on how long the work was and in which area it was absolved it can push the average grade some points higher. If one isn’t sure which activity can be charged, can ask at the university.

KAYBEDEN BİZ KAZANAN TEKNOLOJİ

Değişen dünya ,her geçen gün biz insanoğlunu da değiştiriyor. Olumlu yönde yada olumsuz yönde farketmez ancak değişiyoruz. Ruhsal boyutta daha çabuk çökmeler yaşıyoruz mesela. Her an depresyona girmeye yer arıyoruz çoğu zaman. Sakin başlayan ancak sonu stresten ve gerginlikten dolayı son noktada olduğumuz günlerde olmuyor değil. 
Teknoloji o kadar çabuk ilerliyor ki her yeni yaşında bambaşka icatlarla karşılaşabiliyor çocuklarımız. Seksen jenerasyonu ,teknolojinin başlangıcında olduğu için çoğu icada tanıklık etmiştir. Mesela seksenlerde doğan çocuk renksiz, siyah beyaz tek kanallı televizyon yayınlarından renkli televizyon yayınlarına geçişe tanıklık etmiştir. Zor bir süreçti çoğumuz için. Renkli televizyonların arkasındaki tüpleri bile hatırlamayanlar olabilir. Koskocaman cüsseli bir şeydi televizyon. Şimdilerde neredeyse ip kalınlığında televizyonlar üretiliyor. Onlara bile burun kıvırıyoruz bunun üç boyutlusu yok mu diye.Zaman gerçekten çok acımasız. Düşündüğünüz zaman otuzlu yaşlarda olan bir seksen jenerasyonunun geçirdiği evreler gerçekten korkunç. Türk pop müziği furyası, walkmanler, neredeyse göbek üstüne gelen jeanler sokaklarımızın vazgeçilmezi oldu. Zenginlik göstergesiydi o zamanlar bunlar. Hele yurtdışından geliyorsa senden fiyakalı yoktu o sokakta. Git gide hayatımızın içine giren kapitalist ve tüketici düzenin bizim de hoşumuza gittiği gerçeğini gözler önüne seriyor ki bugüne bugün Dubai dışında dünyanın en görkemli alışveriş merkezleri ülkemizde açılmaktadır. Asgari ücretle sadece bir ayakkabı bile alamayacağınız bu alışveriş merkezleri coğrafik deyimle yazları soğuk ve klimalı kışları ise sıcak ve ılık bir iklime sahip. Almıyorsakta gidiyoruz. Gitmesekte seviyoruz. Semtimize açılan bir alışveriş merkezi sebepsiz bir mutluluğa neden oluyor. Olmalı mı olmamalı mı bunun tartışmasında değilim tabi. Her yeni açılan yer yeni iş imkanlarını çalışma gücünü getirirken küçük esnafların da sonunu getiriyor aslında. Yurtdışına giden bilir, çok gelişmiş dediğimiz ülkelerde alışveriş merkezleri bizlerin ki kadar gösterişli yada trafiği engelleyen şehirin ortasında değildir. Genelde şehir dışlarında sade, gösterişten uzak yerlerde bulunur. Doğrusu da budur aslında şehirin içindeki güzelim marketleri, küçük esnafı da öldürmezler böylece. Kısacası teknoloji dediğimiz seksenli yıllarda bir virüs gibi bulaşan bu durum nasıl olurda bizde doğru kullanılamamış ben bunu anlayamıyorum hala. Seksenli doksanlı yıllarda çocuğumuzu eğitirken dedeye, babaya, anneanneye, babaanneye, anneye, öğretmene önce saygıyı öğretirken biz ne ara her şeyin sahibi sensin ne istersen o olurlara döndük. Nerede yanlış yaptık, neyi yanlış anladık da hangi sayfayı doğru okuyamadık acaba..
